Fun Brain Workouts

People are surprised when they learn that the human brain is primarily a muscle. The more we use it, the stronger it becomes, in a manner of speaking. And just like any other muscle, it is prone to degradation over a period of time; one reason why we need to keep it in tip top shape. The good news is that there are fun and easy ways to do so.

Card Games

Yes, you read it right. Card games can exercise your brain too, with the added benefit of relaxing it as well. Most of us indulge in baccarat, blackjack, and the likes for pure fun. What we don’t realize is that our grey cells get a good work out in the process. Strategies need to be applied, opponents need to be vanquished, and all of this occurs without any stress or strain.

On the face of it, the game looks dead simple. Fill out numbers in boxes, but adjacent columns should not have the same number. Sudoku has spawned a cult of its own with people playing it almost daily. Without you realizing it, the game engages your ability to analyse and decide quickly what numbers should go where. The thing that we love most is that you can suck at math and still be a champion Sudoku player.

Once upon a time, crosswords ruled the world. In fact, most people bought their daily newspaper to fill in the blanks. The New York Times had one of the toughest and most legendary of puzzles. People who completed it were regarded with awe. This was in the black and white era. Crosswords have still retained their old school charm and provide a quick and easy brain workout. Word of advice: watch the spelling.
